My daughter and I were feeling fancy on a Friday afternoon and we decided to treat ourselves to a movie and cookies from our favorite spot on Main Street. One of our favorite things to do is play dress up! To keep the fanciness going, we decided to make fancy binoculars from recycled toilet paper tubes and dressed fancy for dinner and more movies! You’ve seen those fancy opera binoculars, right?? I used the glue gun and she helped paint and choose which feathers to use. I love this DIY because it’s cheap, it’s easy, and I can enjoy doing it with my little one. These are perfect for our dress up wardrobe. Some of my favorite projects are easy toilet paper tube crafts for kids. You can see some really cool recycled toilet paper roll candle holders here >> https://tengemsdiy.com/?p=247
Supplies you will need:
- Toilet paper tubes – you will need two tubes for one pair of fancy binoculars
- Paint in your most favorite fancy colors
- Paint brushes – we used foam brushes, but regular paint brushes will work just fine
- Hot glue gun – never let a little one use the hot glue gun
- Two dowel rods – you can find them easily at the dollar store or the craft aisle of many other stores
- Decorations – feathers, sequins, stickers, ribbon, anything you have on hand!
Step one: What colors are you going to use to paint your recycled toilet paper tubes?
For the first step, decide what color you want to make your DIY fancy goggles. Of course you can use more than one color! It’s always a good idea to set down some scrap paper or newspaper to protect your surfaces, especially when working with a little one lol. Paint your recycled toilet paper tubes and allow them to dry. It shouldn’t take long, but you don’t want to move on to the next step if they’re still wet.
The Grown Up is in Charge of the Glue Gun
This is the grown up part; use the glue gun to glue your fancy binoculars together. You will also use the glue gun to secure the dowel rod to the front side of the binoculars. Let that dry and cool for a few minutes.
Decorating the Recycled Toilet Paper Tube Fancy Binoculars
You and your munchkin decorate those beauties! Here we’ve used some adhesive sequins and feathers from the dollar store. Those sequins are amazing! I used the glue gun to stick the feathers on that my daughter had picked out. If you have stickers or ribbon or markers, those would be really good supplies to have out and available for little hands to work with too.
Quality time is important and there are many things out there you can do with your loved ones to spend time together. In addition to easy toilet paper tube crafts for kids, and other creative outlets, remember to get outside, dance with each other and give hugs.
