Step one: Lay down the colorful scales

You’ll start making the Koinobori’s scales by starting with a row of circle stickers at the bottom of your toilet paper tube. You want the stickers to overlap each other a little so you don’t see any toilet paper tube, and you also want to hang the stickers over the bottom of the tube just a little bit so you can fold the scales over.

You’ll move up one row of scales at a time, using your colored circle stickers randomly or in a pattern, if you’d like. Try to offset the scales so they look more fish like.

Step two: How many DIY Fish Windsocks are you going to make??

I thought three would be my magic number, and the three definitely look good together! Decide how many you’ll make and have fun with the scales.

Step four: Give the Koi fish some life!

Take your white piece of paper and cut our a couple of circles for each fish you’ve made. I made the three Koi fish, so I’ve cut out six circles

Draw some pupils on them, then glue them on!

Step four: A fish tail

Here you’ll get your tissue paper and cut a handful of strips out of it. These are the streamers for your Koinobori. These strips here are four or five inches long, but you can make them however long or short you think would look good for your carp.

Get your hot glue gun (or regular glue) and glue those tail fin streamers in!

Step five: Hang your Koinobori up

Cut your string for your Koinobori to 10 inches or so. Glue both ends in to the top of the windsock and let the glue dry.

Hang those little cuties up! Your DIY fish windsocks look amazing and they’re totally unique to you and your creativity.
