Supplies you’ll need for your Dotted Geometric Wall Art and where to find them:

Step one: Pick your colors

This one can always be a struggle because I love all the colors so much. Pick a background color and three other colors for your dots. A contrasting background color, and three colors that are similar to each other always works out well, but art is about experimentation. You can always use any color combination that makes you happy.

Step two: Paint your base color

The easy step is painting your background color. And the not-so-easy part is waiting for the paint to dry. Luckily acrylic paint dries quickly!

Step three: Make your geometric pattern

This is where the washi tape comes in. I love this tape. It’s lightweight and durable, and also sticky, but not too sticky. This tutorial uses a thinner washi tape to create the geometric lines. If the tape was too thick, it wouldn’t look right.

1. Lay a piece of tape down diagonally from one corner of the canvas to the other.
2. Put a piece down on both sides of the big piece of tape running parallel so you now have three.
3. Repeat these two steps on the opposite side so you now have six strips of tape.
4. Lay a piece of washi tape across the middle of the canvas. Then one on each side of that middle strip.

Step four: Dotting the geometric wall art

Get your three colors out and your handy dandy Q-Tips. You don’t need a ton of paint, so start with a small paint puddle to dip your Q-Tip in. Dunk your cotton swab and create your dots. I like to go from light to dark or dark to light with my colors. Lay down some of your color dots in lines across your triangles. Move on to the next color and make dots in lines, leaving room for your last color. Your wall art is looking sweet! Ugh, more waiting for the paint to dry, but that is an important part of art!

Step five: Peeling the tape off

I love this part. After your paint has completely dried, slowly peel up your washi tape. You will reveal a unique, one of a kind geometric wall art that you created. Hang it up and display it. Give it as a gift. Use it as a reminder of the cool things you can create.
