Step one: Gather your supplies to Make Your Own Magic Wand

You will need a few items to get started on your magic wand. It is important that you have extra hot glue sticks. This craft uses more hot glue than your average DIY. I like these extra long 10″ hot glue sticks so I don’t have to replace them as often. You can find them above in the supply list.

If you have your dowell rods and your extra hot glue sticks ready, warm up your hot glue gun.

Step two: Creating the wand’s tip

At one end of your dowel rod, add only enough hot glue to create a little dome to cover the end of the stick. You don’t need a lot of glue to create the tip of the wand.

As you glue, slowly rotate the dowel rod in between your fingers. This makes it so the glue doesn’t get a chance to drip and it stays in a nice rounded shape. Rotate the dowel rod with the glue on the end until the glue is firm.

Step three: Designing your wand’s handle

Each wand is unique to the person using it. Here you can use your hot glue to make different designs for your wand handle. Here I have created a wand with rings going around the handle.

You will start by adding glue to the blank handle side of the wand. You will add more glue than you did at the other end. Add enough hot glue to cover the end and a little bit over the sides. Rotate the wand in between your fingers while you do this step also. Rotating the wand is important so your glue doesn’t drip. Allow the glue to dry a little bit and add more in sections up the dowel rod as you go.

There are tons of ways you can create your wand’s handle! Experiment with different wands. after you’ve got the hang of what you’re doing, you will be sure to create one that you really feel good about.

Rotate your wand and let your glue harden enough to be able to set it down. It shouldn’t take too long, but it’ll take at least a few minutes. Great art takes patience.

Step four: Adding the magnificent gold

I chose gold because it is a power color. It is beautiful and it is shiny! After your wands have dried and hardened, it is time t paint! Set up a station outside. Lay newspaper or scrap paper down on your work surface so you don’t get spray paint over everything. Lay your wands down, and in an even coat, spray the first side of the wands until they are covered fully with your wonderful gold paint. Allow that coat to dry, and if you feel the need, apply a second coat.

The gold used here is rose gold and it is gorgeous.

After the first side of the wands have finished drying, you can flip the wand over and paint the other side, taking care to cover them completely. Give them some time to dry outside.

Your wands are finished and they look magical! They are glorious and they deserve to be shown to all allies and foes! Now that you’ve learned How to Make Your Own Magic Wands, teach your friends, or make more for your friends.
